Evolution FC Earns 2–0 Road Victory Over Urbana City

Round Lake Evolution FC returned from Champaign with all three points Saturday night, defeating Urbana City FC 2–0 at Judah’s Field of Dreams.
Goals from Maqiis Haywood and Emilio “JJ” Ortiz secured the victory as the Evo continued its strong response following the opening weeks of the Fall 2026 UPSL Premier Division campaign.
The result moves Round Lake to two wins, one draw and one loss through four completed league matches, giving the club seven points heading into October.
Evo Breaks Through on the Road
Round Lake entered the match looking to build on consecutive positive results against Ethos United and TBD FC.
The Evo found the breakthrough through Maqiis Haywood, giving Round Lake the advantage away from home.
Rather than sitting on the lead, Evolution continued to push for a second goal.
Emilio “JJ” Ortiz eventually found the back of the net to double the advantage and give Round Lake the breathing room it needed to close out the match.
The Evo protected the lead through the final whistle to secure a 2–0 road victory and another important three points.
“We knew winning on the road in this league was going to require discipline,” said Head Coach Lorenzo Cortez. “The guys stayed focused, competed for each other and finished the opportunities we created. We’re happy with the result, but we know there is still a lot of work ahead of us.”
Another Strong Defensive Performance
The victory also marked another strong defensive showing for Round Lake.
After defeating Ethos United 3–0 and earning a 1–1 draw against TBD FC in Wisconsin, the Evo once again limited its opponent while finding the goals needed at the other end.
Round Lake has now collected seven points from its last three matches, taking victories over Ethos United and Urbana City with the road draw against TBD FC in between.
That run has given the Evo valuable momentum as the Fall schedule enters an important stretch.
“These road trips take commitment from everybody — the players, coaches and staff,” said Co-Owner Milton Carranza. “To travel down there and come back to Round Lake with three points is something the entire group can be proud of. Now we have a big stretch of games coming up and we have to keep building.”
Contributions Across the Squad
Saturday’s result continued a trend of different players stepping up throughout the Fall campaign.
Haywood and Ortiz became the latest Evo players to contribute on the scoresheet, adding to an attack that has already received goals from several members of the squad this season.
That balance has helped Round Lake respond after its season-opening defeat and put together a three-match unbeaten run.
With the schedule becoming increasingly demanding, contributions throughout the roster will remain important as the club moves deeper into the season.
Chicago Nation Comes to Round Lake
The Evo now turns its attention toward a major home fixture.
Round Lake Evolution FC will return to Round Lake High School Stadium on Wednesday, October 7, when Chicago Nation FC visits Round Lake for an 8:15 PM kickoff.
Only three days later, the Evo will be back on the road to face Force Soccer Club on Saturday, October 10, at 6:00 PM at The MAC.
For now, Round Lake leaves Champaign with another positive result, another clean sheet and three more points.
The momentum continues.
